Some people are automatically entitled to free NHS prescriptions. This is called an ‘exemption’.
Certain prescribed items are always free, including contraceptives and medication given to hospital inpatients.

If you are not entitled to free prescriptions, you can always purchase a prepayment certificate which makes paying for your prescriptions much cheaper.
